Bracket Snubs Are Good for the Game

NCAA Selection Sunday provided a few surprises, as it always does, and predictably there are some teams that are pretty upset about being left out. Renewed calls for expanding the tournament have begun in reaction, but Doug thinks that’s a terrible idea. Part of the excitement about the tourney is because of the exclusivity offered by the smaller field and the joy experienced by the teams who got in. Going dancing isn't a very special accomplishment if everybody gets an invitation.

Doug Gottlieb: “I love the selectivity of it. Don’t expand it. I like it when people are like mad that they don’t get in. That’s awesome...that’s awesome! The best clubs, the best bars, the best organizations, they cap the number and that’s it! In order to make something special, you have to make it special.”
