The 2025 NFL Kickoff Game between the Dallas Cowboys and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles has been suspended due to inclement weather in Philadelphia.

A weather delay was issued with the Eagles leading the Cowboys, 24-20, with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service. The warning was expected to last until around 11:15 p.m. local time and play is expected to resume.

The following message was shown on the jumbotron at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia:

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for our area. These storms may produce severe conditions, including lightning and strong winds.
For your safety, please exit the open seating area at this time and seek shelter along the concourses.
Thank you for your cooperation.

The game between the NFC East Division rivals started with controversy as Eagles All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected on the opening play of the 2025 NFL season for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The incident took place while after the opening kickoff and just prior to the Cowboys' first offensive play of the 2025 NFL Kickoff Game at Lincoln Financial Field Thursday (September 4) night.

Play stopped after Eagles fullback and special teams player Ben VanSumeren suffered an injury that resulted in him being carted off the field.

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY AND WILL BE UPDATED.
