Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark announced she's out for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season in a post shared on her social media accounts Thursday (September 4).
Clark, 23, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, was limited to just 13 games for various injuries during the 2025 season, having last appeared in the Fever's win against the Connecticut Sun on July 15, which resulted in a right groin injury during the final minute of play.
"I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good. The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs," Clark wrote.
Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds during limited action in 2025, coming off a rookie season in which she averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds. The former University of Iowa standout's dominance as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's and men's basketball and successful rookie campaign has led to a spike in the viewership of women's basketball.
